How your support helps—

Why give to San Damiano?

Celebrate the unique beauty, history, and potential of San Damiano. Your generosity will help us transform this 10-acre property into a vibrant public space for all. We envision a future in which people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can enjoy this natural lakeside destination that respects the environment, honors history, celebrates culture, invites recreation, and enriches the lives of everyone who visits. These core values inform a shared vision that weaves together threads of the past, present, and future.

Your support is essential and will help:

  1. Care for, preserve, and enhance San Damiano’s natural beauty for all to enjoy.
  2. Enhance programs that strengthen community bonds.
  3. Prepare for the implementation of the San Damiano Master Plan to secure its long-term future.

Friends of San Damiano is a nonprofit organization that relies on private donations. Your support is vital. Together, we will honor the rich historical, cultural, environmental, and recreational values that make San Damiano so special, ensuring it thrives for future generations.

IRA Distributions and Planned Giving Information

Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution from Your IRA
A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from an IRA is a very tax-efficient way to make charitable gifts for those who are over the age of 70½. Many advisors refer to these gifts as "IRA charitable rollovers." The transfer must be made directly to the charitable organization. If you have an IRA checkbook, you can write the check directly to Friends of San Damiano. Please be sure to attach a note that this check is from your IRA. You can give up to $100,000 per year, and your spouse can also give up to $100,000 from his or her IRA.

Interested in partnering with us?

The City of Monona will assume principal ownership of San Damiano, and its leadership is committed to maintaining the property as a public recreational asset in perpetuity. However, as a small City, Monona cannot shoulder the purchase and transformation of the property alone. The City already has received a $2M commitment from Dane County, and will take the lead in securing other public funds.

The Friends of San Damiano is leading all private efforts in support of the purchase, master planning, and site revitalization.

Contact us today to discuss partnership opportunities.

Be part of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Conserving San Damiano is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and the Friends of San Damiano can't wait to determine how this iconic site can be a recreational, historic, and cultural gem for all to enjoy.

But we can't do it alone. Please join us in creating a lasting legacy for those in Monona, Madison, and beyond.
